University Credit

The Outreach College of the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa is offering one credit hour for participation in the festival. Details and a course syllabus can be viewed here: outreach_syllabus 2010 (pdf)

How to register:

Please indicate that you are interested in university credit on your festival registration form. The University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa is an accredited institution. The credit earned for the course (MUS 400) will be a regular credit and will count toward your GPA for the semester.  By special agreement, only an administrative fee of $141 will be charged for the course.  However, in order to be eligible, you must also be a registered participant of the Hawaii Contrabass Festival.

If you are already a University of Hawai‘i student,  you can register for the course without applying to the Outreach College.  If you are a student from another college, university or conservatory, you need to apply to the Outreach college first.  Please complete and submit the following form: Outreach College credit app .  You will be applying for SPRING and in the blank space below, please write EXTENSION.  You may submit the form by snail mail or fax.  When you receive acceptance confirmation from Outreach College, please contact Hawaii Contrabass Festival to complete your registration for MUS 400.

Housing

Hawaii Contrabass Festival has a guaranteed group rate at the Ilima Hotel in Waikiki.

All rooms are equipped with kitchens, free high-speed internet, and 32-inch flat-screen television. Studios may be shared by up to three persons. The rooms range in price from $95/day upwards. To reserve a room, go to the hotel website www.ilima.com and follow the links to Hot Deals Special.  Complete the registration form and in ‘Additional Comments’, type the code CBFEST.  The fifth night free does not apply for the group, but the discounted rate is guaranteed.  Limited free parking is available.  If you have any questions about reservations, please ask for Karen or Courtney at 800-801-9366 or 808-923-1877.

Another economical Waikiki housing choice is the Royal Grove Hotel , located at 161 Uluniu Avenue, Honolulu HI 96815 (map). The Royal Grove is family owned and run and comes highly recommended by frequent visitors to the islands.  Amenities are simple, but rates are very reasonable.  Weekly rates are available from $450.  This is a small hotel and sells out quickly in high season.
